Headlines read that the worst terrorist attack America has ever seen has occurred, the government is watching every one; is security worth the cost of freedom? In Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, there is a huge terrorist attack and the Department of Homeland Security ramps up security, so that every American is under heavy surveillance, then it is up to a boy by the name of Marcus to put a stop to this nonsense. Another book that exemplifies government control is George Orwell's 1984; this novel depicts a nation that is under total watch by the government that leads this nation. A man by the name of Winston challenges this system but fails and becomes a follower of Big Brother, the head figure of the Government. Even though the objective of the main character is not achieved, it is still a good example of what government can become. These authors have given many warnings about what America's government could become but have American's paid attention to these warning? Society has not learned from the warnings about government domination given by George Orwell’s 1984 and Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother; if humanity does not change, then they shall hold a fate similar to these novels.
